At UNC Asheville, we believe in the power of sports to bring families, neighbors and entire communities together. We must continue to invest in our university’s and our community’s future, to continue attracting top student-athletes. UNC Asheville’s Athletics Department is raising capital for four significant community investments that include:
These projects are consistent with UNC Asheville’s Master Facility Plan and UNC Asheville Athletics’ commitment to developing engaging relationships with residents, community partners and local businesses. However, at this time state funding cannot be used to finance these projects.
We are asking for your philanthropic support to help fund these projects and ensure our Bulldogs remain competitive not only in the Big South Conference, but on a national level. A variety of exciting and unique naming rights are available, along with the giving levels outlined here.
Originally built in 1975, and most recently resurfaced in 2011, the track was in disrepair. UNC Asheville is raising $4.5M to complete the following improvements:
"The renovation of our outdoor track and field facility is a dream come true for me and my teammates. We have been waiting for this moment for a long time, so to see it come to fruition is a big moment for our program and university. We can't wait to train and compete on this new track! I can't wait to see the spectators in the stands supporting us as we compete and want to thank everyone who has helped make this possible. Go Bulldogs!"
- Track & Field Student-Athlete Anthony Mason
UNC Asheville is raising $5M to add the following amenities and improvements:
"As a soccer Alumnus and a fan of the Bulldogs I am extremely excited about the impending upgrades to the soccer facility. It'll be a great way to connect with more Alumni as well as get the Asheville community more involved. I'm here to support the project in whatever ways I can, and hopefully that will encourage other community members to do the same."
- Owner of The Hop Ice Cream and Men's Soccer Alumnus Greg Garrison
Our goal is to raise $5 million to support these additional improvements:
"Benjamin Franklin once wrote 'Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement and success have no meaning.' The opportunity for growth is within our grasp when it pertains to our baseball facility. We have had incremental improvements over the last four years, but this next stage of growth is game-changing for our program, our present and future student-athletes, and our fans. With these enhancements, UNC Asheville baseball will become a destination site for colleges, high schools, and club teams for years to come."
- Head Baseball Coach Scott Friedholm
Our goal is to raise $4.5M to support these additional improvements:
"Our tennis programs have enjoyed a lot of success in recent years and there has never been a better opportunity to embark on this facility project. Having a tennis facility on campus will be huge for the student-athletes and help both men's and women's tennis reach our conference title and NCAA tournament goals."
- Head Women's Tennis Coach Lise Gregory
"Bulldog Athletics is an anomaly among our NCAA Division I counterparts. We do not compromise our academic standards in service to our athletic goals. Our student-athletes maintain higher GPAs throughout their time at UNC Asheville and graduate at higher rates than their non-athlete peers. We need facilities whose quality matches the caliber of our student-athletes' commitment, persistence, and success in the classroom, on the playing field, and in their high-impact practices like internships, research, and community service in which they participate. Your support is an investment in their future and the communities they will positively impact after graduation."
- UNC Asheville Interim Chancellor Kimberly van Noort
"UNC Asheville Athletics is embarking on a journey to 'Dream Bigger. Achieve More.' Our Outdoor Sports Complex, once complete, will position UNC Asheville for sustained excellence not only regionally, but nationally in NCAA Division I. We are inviting our generous alumni, community leaders, and friends to help make these dreams a reality and enhance the student-athlete experience for current and future Bulldogs."
-UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone
