Happening every February, UNC Asheville's Homecoming brings together all of the campus community.
Homecoming, which took place the week of February 23nd to February 27th was such a fun week of celebrating our school spirit with students and alumni. In case you missed it check out all that we did!
The beginning of our Homecoming Week featured the Kickoff Event with giveways and food, with the Africana Studies Department, SGA, Transition and Parent Programs, and Alumni Engagement team!
The Key Center hosted the Homecoming Service Project where students helped in projects to support local community organizations including Babies Need Bottoms and Bounty & Soul.
We also had a men's Basketball game watch party versus Garner Webb later in the evening.
Other events throughout the week included fun events that helped us come together to celebrate the bulldog spirit. We enjoyed an entertaining game of virtual drag bingo hosted by Roxxxy Andrews from RuPaulâs Drag Race! On Pajama Movie Night we watched a double feature of Princess and the Frog and Black Panther with free popcorn. Later in the week, we were lucky to have Asheville-based singer-songwriter Frances Eliza perform at Live at Lunch. That night we witnessed a mind-blowing and interactive show featuring hypnotist Craig Karges.Â
On Friday, we held the Alumni Awards ceremonies The National Alumni Awards Banquet took place where the university recognized our 2021 & 2022 Alumni Award Recipients.
The 2022 Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony awarded the inductees for 2022.
Before our doubleheader for women's and men's basketball games, we got to enjoy the Homecoming Bulldog Block Party with free food, games, and music.
The women's basketball team beat the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, 63 to 43. After three overtimes and an intense game, the men's basketball team defeated Presbyterian College, 98 to 96. The game went into triple overtime which was the first time in school history! It was an amazing day for all bulldogs in the Kimmel Arena.
During the men's Basketball Game Halftime, we crowned Baye Samodal as UNC Asheville's 2022 "Top Dog". Congrats Baye!
The Homecoming Week came to a close Saturday night with Homecoming after Dark where students had the chance to participate in numerous activities at Highsmith Student Union and Student Recreation Center. Activities such as Stuff a Plush, mini-golf, laser tag, and e-sports.
