Drs. Leah Greden Mathews and Melissa Mahoney, faculty in the Department of Economics at UNC Asheville, don't just use text books and slides to teach their intro to econ courses; they use the music of artists like Bruce Springsteen, Gary Clark Jr., Amythyst Kiah, and Yola, to teach economic literacy.
Now, they're ready to take their show on the road. Mathews and Mahoney are vying for the chance to present their unique approach at SXSW (South by Southwest), the popular conference celebrating the convergence of tech, film, music, education, and culture in Austin, TX.
You can help them get there.
Check out Mathews' and Mahoney's video proposal for “The Pedagogical Power in a Playlist”, a workshop exploring the enhancement of economic literacy through deep listening of popular music. Then visit their SXSW Panel Picker page and vote!
All it takes is 30 seconds to create an SXSW profile to log on and share your vote. Anyone can “Vote Up” or “Vote Down” on all session ideas (votes will be kept private) and voters are encouraged to add comments to each page. Voting ends Sunday, August 21, 2022.
