We’re back on campus at UNC Asheville for the spring semester, but the COVID-19 pandemic is still with us. With the winter weather limiting the amount of time we can enjoy outside, you may find yourself spending more time at home in order to stay safe and prevent catching or spreading the virus.
Enjoy your time at home by cozying up under a blanket and listening to some new tunes by alumni musicians—or throw those blankets off and have a solo dance party. (And dream about the day we can see music live again!)
Everything Will Be Okay
William Hinson
Cheery, poppy music and a reassuring title— 2018 music technology graduate William Hinson’s newest album is exactly what you need to brighten up a grey winter afternoon. Hinson actually started his own record label while he was still a student at UNC Asheville.
Touch Me
Larkin
Looking for something a little more moody? Larkin’s (Larkin Dodgen ‘##) 2020 EP Touch Me is filled with melancholy love songs (though the official music video will make you pine for springtime). Fun fact: Larkin, who graduated with a concentration in jazz studies, was part of the UNC Asheville Singers’ holiday performance at the White House in 2013.
Birds of Paradise
Mama Danger
Time to get acoustic. Folk-based string duo Mama Danger members Nick Cameron and Gabriela Rose met at UNC Asheville (also on a trip to the White House with the UNC Asheville Singers) and released their first EP in 2018. Get a preview of the duo’s forthcoming single, Birds of Paradise, on the podcast J Voices, produced by the Asheville Jewish Community Center (their performance starts at about 13 minutes).
