The first classes of Fall 2022 started bright at early on Monday, Aug. 15, but the excitement really kicked off days before, with new student Move In Day, Embark, Convocation, Rockypalooza, and Weeks of Welcome events to celebrate the start of a new academic year.
Faculty, staff and student volunteers spent the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 10 helping new students move into the residence halls. It's always an exciting and emotional day for students, and their families, as each students puts their own personal touch on their new living space, turning a residence hall room into a home.
On Friday, Aug. 12, students gathered in the Kimmel Arena for Convocation, with words of welcome and wisdom offered by Chancellor Cable, SGA President Lo Braswell, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Meghan Harte Weyant, and Dean of Natural Sciences Marietta Cameron.
"The University of North Carolina at Asheville is a liberal arts school. Our core values are diversity and inclusion, innovation and sustainability. However, ensuring that we effectively reflect these commitments means being open to transformation," Braswell said to her fellow students. "It means understanding a curriculum that includes material reflecting all students and people, and valuing a place that offers opportunity for elevation and growth on all levels. I love our small, intimate, collaborative spaces! So as you begin to enter these spaces stay mindful of how you are preparing for the world. Broaden the content in which you discuss to increase the high-impact experiences.
I personally believe that we are the future leaders of the world, and it’s starts here."
Our new Bulldogs continued their journey to get to know UNC Asheville—and each other—at a host of Weeks of Welcome events, including Rockypalooza and the Candlelight Ceremony.
And we're only getting started! Welcome home, Bulldogs. We're so glad you're here.
